I caught 2 20+ pound carp on a crankbait. One Sunday and one Monday. They were both foul hooked in the tail fin, but they both hit it like a bass. I guess they tail slapped it. Great heart pumping excitement for a few seconds. The one on Sunday was a few hours after a double digit bass broke me off on Conroe.

Never made it to Livingston the other weekend. Thanks for the advice anyway.

Jamie,
Most carp that I have seen are very skiddish. 10-1, you brought the crank right by him, and it scared him.
You can fish for them, and it takes about a day to setup the area, and then fish it the next day. I take canned corn, liquid and all, and then take Kool-Aid and mix it with the corn. Cast this mixture with a sling-shot, to chum the water, and come back the next day with doughballs.
Some of the best action you will get. I have caught them up to 50 lbs. Don't do it alone, cause carp have a tendency to slap their tails around, and if it catches you around your head, you can be knocked out cold. So, go fishing with a friend.
I use the same setups for carp that I use for catfish. 6'6"-7'6" Medium-Heavy action rod, 15# or heavier mono. I wouldn't go much above 15, as it's about the best you can get for cats and carp. I use a 1/2 oz. egg sinker, above a swivel, with a 24" leader that is 12# fluorocarbon, and Khale style hook.
Carp are great fish to catch, and they put up on heck of a fight.

Thanks for the advice John. On Conroe the only good crap is a dead one.
