ok, i guess i opened a can of worms on this one, but i have another one...
Bill shape?
some have square bills, some have rounded, i know most shallow runners have a square bill, but a rouge type usually has a rounded one... i guess my question is whats the difference? does one produce a wider wobble? why dont you ever see a deep runner with a square bill?

Hi TC,
Round lips cause a wide wobble and tend to cause the baits tail to swing back and forth. Square lips cause a tighter side to side motion and less tail swing. They are also exceptional for pulling through brush. The width and angle of the lip control the wiggle of a lure. They say that the square bill is exceptional for pulling through brush. But this is a myth. The short lip gets it through the brush. Round or square, it all works. Coffin lips will deflect better than round lips.
Hope this helps.

i usually stick to plastic due to price, but i'm venturing into the world of wood some this year...so, please send me some extra dough....

Thanks for all the imput guys, i throw crankbaits some, but i usually prefer soft plastics... Now, i am in the same boat as champ, i would like to try a wood crank, but i can buy 5 or 6 bags of senkos for what i would pay for one crank... i ... just... cant... bring ... myself ... to ... do ... it... .. Seminole, here is a question for you, since you are a tackle maker... i understand the cost of wood cranks, there is alot more work that goes into them, but why are baits like lucky craft and others that are plastic also so high priced??

I am not sure. I have never owned anything from Lucky Craft. I belive that they are made in Japan. And the hype that goes with the Japanese lures as being the best in the world probably increases the price. I have nothing bad to say about them, I just have never even seen one other than in the Bass Pro Catalog. I know they pay and sponsor their pro's very well.
