new topic for champion....
i for one believe that something new the fish haven't seen is better....but i depend on the fish to tell me that. if i don't get bit pretty fast and i know fish are there, i go back to ole faithful.
sometimes i've hit the jack-pot w/ new cranks. or change to a new color worm....and after some time i've seen the bite decrease, but something new or time to change baits will do the trick.
it's the reason i have too much crap!!!
this went a little stray,,,was looking more at new designs, like the ribbit i'm killing fish on ribbit, when brush hogs came out they took off....etc..

I believe that color matters only when the fish say it does! Some days they will hit anything...others it has to have a certain shape, others a certain color and shape doesn't matter. There are some colors that are standard no matter what, light on light, dark on dark...Red Traps on Sam in the Spring, Black/Blue jigs on Kentucky lake...and on and on. What does this mean? Follow the Rule of 10... in ten casts or ten minutes without a bite, change something, color, bait, location, something until you figure them out on that day at that lake. cbs 216.39.197.164 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coach Bill Speer The Fishing Coach Quality Trips for Veterans, Rookies, Kids www.thefishingcoach.com/www.championboats.comwww.redwingboatco.comwww.americanrodsmiths.comwww.thundershad.com/www.rapala.com/

I dont know, i have had more instances where i was trying a new bait or color, and ended up going back to old faithful(my confidence bait or color) and started catching fish... i have hundreds of dollars worth of baits that i bought, tried once, and have never used again... i think it boils down to confidence... if you have confidence in a spinnerbait and go out and throw it all day... you will catch fish no matter what lake, time of year, weather or water.... same thing goes for a crank bait, or topwater, or worm, etc etc etc... if you throw it all day you will eventually hit one on the head and he will eat.... so my advice is to pick something and stick with it..

Well, here I go...I believe that confidence has no bearing on whether the fish will bite or not. We hear the confidence drill all the time for some of the touring pros and it just doesn't make sense.
The fish either want a bait or not, want a color or not, want a presentation or not and it changes daily, hourly and sometimes by the minute.
I have confidence EVERY cast that I am going to get bit. Otherwise why throw? I have got to feel that way or I will lose my concentration and miss a fish.
That kind of confidence I agree with...confidence in a bait, well it just doesn't matter to the fish what you have confidence in. Here is a good example...Red Had 10" power worms in LA..Joel will tell you about that. It has been a "confidence" bait for anglers for years. But, that is not what most people are throwing. Why? Because the fish don;t want it. While on the Atachfalya Basin last fall, I threw that darn worm for about 20% of all my practice time. Not one bite...threw a black/blue jib in the same spot--BANG! Best bite was on a worm I got from Ivy at Ivy's Tackle shop (we have know each other for years, great guy, btw)...what color did he had me? A Columbia Blue and off white worm...Why? Because the fish were hammering it.

I go by the color I think will work rather than a new style or shape.
That being said, I have too much stuff anyway!
