Hey Guys, I thought I would share a good fishing story that proves you never know about them bass. I took my wife for a boat ride the other day about 2 pm(HOT). We were riding on the Sabine River which is located on the Texas/Louisiana border.
After cruising all over the place for a while, I decided to stop and make a few casts in some lily pads which are all over this river's banks. I started fishing the edges of the pads with a roadrunner (crappie lure), and immediately caught a small bass. After several more small fish on the edges I decided to throw a 1/4 oz buzzbait way back into the pads to see if there might be some bigger fish under the pads. Sure enough, there were bass everywhere under the pads blowing up on my lure. I caught over 30 bass doing this before leaving for more boat riding. This was not a special spot that I normally fish. Just decided to stop and it looked good, so I figure I just got lucky. So, never give up on them bass in the middle of a hot summer day with good shady cover.

I love fishing a buzzbait! Were most of them smaller fish?

Can you give us more info on the Sabine river? I know I have crossed it several times. Is it shallow? deep? dangerous?

bass4fun, I fish the Sabine allot. Send me an IM and maybe we can do some fishing together.
I fish from the Intracoastal to Nibblets park. It is all good running as long as you are in the main river. The river itself is deep but there are allot of cuts and canals off the main river. There is a few places also that have sunken barges that could do serious damage to your boat but you can see most of them. The best fishing on that river occurs during a falling or rising tide. Hit the cuts and you can load up. Also in the summer you can fish around the barges in the ship yard areas and load up. There are some big flats off the river also that fish spawn in during spring. You can catch some really nice fish in there.

Yes, John most of the fish were small....averaged about 12" with one over 14" long. Good action on light tackle. I was fishing north of IH10 bridge about a mile. Plenty deep and wide on that end of the river.
