Are those AllStar Rods you get at Academy for 49.99 any good. I picked up a couple and they felt like they had a good action to them, but I have heard allot of breakage stories.
I don't use expensive equipment, mostly BPS brand so high end stuff is usually out of my price range.

I don't use thier rods so I am not sure about breakage or the quality. You may want to inquire about thier warrenty policy on these rods and compare it to other brands in that price range though.

I bought 4 of them last year when they went on sale. All 4 broke the first time I used them. 3 of them the handle came off and you could spin the reel all the way around the blank and the GT2 shattered from the tip to the handle. On the other hand my dad has had a few for years with no troubles at all. He loves them.

I have seven (7) that go back to 1989, never a problem.
I just bought three at the new price (made in China) but haven't tried them yet.
I hope they are as good as the older made in America Al Stars.

Here what I have learned on the Academy All-Star Rods they contract the rods from All Star they are made in China the ones at BPS and Cabelas are made in the USA
Now they are owned by Shakespeare Inc in order to get warranty you have to Mail the rod to All Star Service Center, 3801 Westmore Drive, Columbia, SC 29223.
They are no longer in Houston or Texas
I used them for years but I had a lifetime warranty turned down by them as if it is not a current model they are making they will not warrant it and they keep your $15 so make sure you have called or emailed and know which model you have

And, just so you all know Kistlers are made right here in Magnolia and can be purchased from me at my website at retail or at discount to members from me at my e-mail address info@genevaenterprises.com. Same warranty as G-Loomis and service by me better than anyplace else. In fact, I have been known to deliver if distance is right, or meet you on a parking lot or whatever. Fishermen helping fishermen is what it's all about. Kistler's just cannot be beat my friends.

Bill,
The All Star ($29.99) was an in store special, I used reward points, so no money changed hands.
Explorer,
I was going to participate in the Kistler Rod logo and slogan contest, but figured I had waited to long.
I sure would like to see how much better they are. "Kistler, Light as a kiss, stronger than Love"

Robert, you are correct. Contest ended a while back and winning slogan is : "FISHING NEVER FELT SO GOOD" It's pretty good one and fits the product. Best rods I ever used in every respect. Logo still hasn't changed yet so that might be open to suggestion. Send anything either to me or directly to Trey Kistler. I am in their shop just about every week since it is just minutes from my house so I will pass along your idea. Thanks for the input. Ever want to give Kistler a try just let me know. I will take care of you for sure. It's a pleasure to visit with all of you on this great board. I am going to do my best to see that this one grows.
