This is my least used rod and reel just prefer bait casters but couple times a year it is the only way to put fish in the boat so the questions are
Spinning Rods
What your favorite action make up # test line and length in a Spinning rod
mine is MH all graphite 6 ft 10 inch model and I just switched to 30lb Power pro (6lb dia)

Bill could you describe the conditions that made you go to the spinning rod. Was it the type of bait you were using or the location.

Bill could you describe the conditions that made you go to the spinning rod. Was it the type of bait you were using or the location. He is another Bill's opinion if you like. I use a spinning rig in numerous situations. 1. Drops Hots...the resaons should be obvious yet if I am throwing my drop shot in heavy cover (docks, brush) I use a bait cast and heavier line. For "pure" dropshotting I use an American Rodsmith dropshot rod and a Shimano Stradic MG reel with 8# YoZuri hybrid soft line. 2. Skipping tubes...Rodsmith tube rod & Shiman Stradic MG spoolied with 20# Spiderwire 3. Throwing a frog...Same as #2 4. Fishing a jighead...Same as #2 except I use the 8# YoZuri line and a VERY light jig head. 5, Schooling bass...same as #4 Hope this makes sense. cbs

I keep it simple. I have a 7' Fenwick HMG rod. I throw 10 lb line and I use it for everything.....finnesse, small cranks, small jigs, I don't drop shot. This is what works for me, everybody does things different. Oh and I fish this set up in very heavy cover, next to docks and gnarly brush piles....

When the fishing conditions really get tough and they are short striking regular T rig or swiping at cranks but not taking it
I down size to a split shot rig with a weenie worm prefer a green tomato it red backed clear metal faked bottom and Chartreuse tail
The second situation is it the fish suspend up under docks I use it to skip baits under the docks weightless sometimes a tube sometimes LFT crawtube it falls so slow they just swim out with it
Going to try a drop shot rig this year for Bass out on humps when they are off the bottom and will not take a Crig

I use a spinning rod for drop shotting with 8lb line. I need to start using it more. I see alot of the Tour Pros are using them more often now when the bite is tough. Right now I have a few 6 1/2 foot Med and a 6 foot Med action Castaways HG40 Graphite

i'll switch to a spinner to down size baits, very small light baits. or on small schoolies w/ a 1/8-1/4oz lead jig, you'll catch 100s but they'll be tiny...better than nothing at all.
don't use it much, it's a bps extreme spinning combo.. 6.6 med....

I am using a Falcon Cara 7 footer medium action I use it for worms texas rigged with a very light sinker. and tubes & grubs around docks I just like the action on this rod for these apps and the leverage it gives me because I dont have to jerk the fish over the boat to set the hook with it. I also use 8lb pline flouroclear on this rod. most of you will laugh about this setup but it works very well for me. oh and I have a abu cardinal reel on on it I think it is a model 201.
