Are we letting the Boat companies over price boats
Ok 10 years ago there was not all the computerized key pad starts, livewell timers ,GPS Speedos, storage racks for Plano boxes lighted boxes and GPS Sonar units and too many to list but you get the idea
10 years ago you had a depth finder usually one and maybe a flasher, Speedo rocker switches and if you had a fancy boat a gas shock absorber on you rod box
by buying these new conveniences we allow them to think we need fancier, glittezer models do we really need them to catch fish heck I think I caught more fish out of my old belly boat than I have in in boat I have own
Do we really need all these new things they bring out every couple of years and are the $40K to $50K price tag justified
are we just as much to blame for the higher prices by buying them
Just a thought and whats you thought on it

I don't know if 'blame' is the correct term. The price on the boats will be what the market will bear. I know that Skeeter sales have been great the past several years. I believe that Rangers have been doing very well too. So, in a sense, I guess we are to 'blame'. As long as the market continues to buy the fancier, higher priced boats, the manufacturers will make them.
Like our trucks and SUV's, the quality of the boats being made today has increased dramatically.

Scott I wrote this because all I hear is people blaming the manufacture for the $40 to $50 K prices
They are only giving us what will sell after all that is their business
I heard there was going to be a 6% increase on another site they where griping and complaining
I just wanted to get a feeling from our members how they feel about
There is no right or wrong answer get what you can afford that the reason they make so many models

I agree Bill. The manufacturers will only make and ultimately sell what we will buy.
I know that there was a big jump in price across all types of boats last year. Most manufacturers had held their prices somewhat constant when the economy wasn't as relatively strong as it is now. Their margins had shrunk because of the increased prices in the petroleum industry. Prices in that industry are still climbing and the economy continues to get a bit better. Those two factors alone would likely cause the prices to rise again.

I think the boat prices are way to high also. However I may get a new one next fall. If we create the demand they will supply. And it's seems some people don't mind the prices because they are going out and buying the biggest and baddest boats and motors made. Most of these buyers are young fellows. I understand the price of oil and steel brings up the price of the boats. I do agree they are adding a lot of fluff to the boats now also Bill. I don't need a Manufactuers net or measureing board that helps bring up the boat prices.

I could also do without the ruler, Plano storage boxes, and a few other little things but I do love the Hiber-net!!

Honestly I could never see myself paying 50-60grand on a boat. You will get there faster and even handle bigger waves(depending on driver) than me. But just because you have that boat doesnt mean you will out fish me. Will boats go down in price, IMHO NO! Why should they when they have boats on back order for almost a year when they are not even out yet. I feel if you can afford that new ride more power to you. I am not in the postion where I could afford that. Dont get me wrong would I like all that upgraded stuff hell yeah. I would love to have a touch start pad in my boat and a couple other things, but none of that is going to make you a better fisherman. Its all about look what I have and what I spent to get it, like I said before MORE POWER TO YOU, do you need all of that I highly doubt it. My '95 Ranger still gets it down the water pretty good for a 10year old boat. But hey that is just my opinion. Hope I did not offened anyone.

Hard to blame the manufactures for the prices when we are buying all they can make.

Supply and Demand, plane ole economics. Just like the tackle we buy. Now $15 for crankbaits, $10 for spinnerbaits, etc, etc. I love fishing but then I think what i had 50 years back when I fish with a cane pole off the bank using catcut line. When I bought my boat a few years back and paid 20 grand, man I thought was I going to die. It is an investment that will last me a long time (If I can get an engine that does the same).
