OK I am guilty as the next guy of buying the so called hot bait
Is it really hot or just something the bass have not seen before most hot baits only seem to last about a year
This leads to another question do Bass get conditioned to baits after the first year take Fork for example the fish see the same lure probably ten thousand times a day during the spawn do they just get accustom to it and ignore it therefore they are conditioned not to bite it again ever
or is this generated by the manufactures need to get to buy something new every year
What do you think the next hot bait will be

honestly i think your are going to start see alot more of the "classics" being remanufactured... Van Dam won the classic with a 20 year old rouge... several other pros throw cranks you cannot get any more... i think cream worms will start being popular again for dropshotting... so i think the hot new thing will be "going old school"..

I have to agree. My 6.5 year old son has been catching a great number of fish on a Jitterbug. There are probably 25+ class years of fish who have never seen that lure. I have also gone back to fishing a worm more than lizards and creature baits and have had a great deal of success.

If you are looking for the NEXT HOT LURE, my recommendation would be either the NetBait Baby Paca Craw, or the NetBait Baby Action Cat. I have used both of these lures for the past 4 months, and together, they have landed me more bass than ANY other lure by itself. And not just small bass, but bass that range from 2-5 lbs. Just this past Monday, I used the Baby Action Cat on a T-rig, from 9-10 AM, in Watermelon Pepper, and hooked into 4 bass, 2 of which were 2 lbs., with the other two being over 3 lbs. The first cast I made with the Baby Paca Craw, in the same color above, resulted in a 5 lbs. bass. Both of these lures are impregnated with Anise Oil, and they both have incredible action. As for bass becoming conditioned, I believe that it's on a varying degree. I believe that they will become accustomed to seeing a lure presented in a specific way, such as a lizard on a T-rig, but, if you present it in a different manner, such a C-rig, they will bite it. Of course, fishing on a huge impoundment, such as the various reservoirs around the South, not every bass is going to see every way you can present a lure. That's when fishing different areas will produce fish............you just have to look for subtle differences. Hope this helps out bud. ;D

My definition of what's HOT is what the customers are asking for. Right now, the sweet beavers have that distinction and the school girl grub head gets a lot of attention. I have fished with both and had good results so I like them but are they best for everyone in every situation? I doubt it. It's all personal preference just like rod and reel brands or line and hooks. As a dealer you have a lot of decisions to make as to what to carry. And, I won't even get into colors or weights. I tell folks, try 'em if you like 'em buy some more. George

;D funny thing about hot baits! make sure you have enough of them when they quit working so hot. Then wait till they're not made anymore and they are all but forgotten and SURPRISE they're a hot bait again and nobody else has any. Catch and release works real well in training bass not to bite certain baits especially the ones they see or here 100+ times. A fact easily proven over and over in small ponds fished alot!

MTBass, I think you just defined my business strategy. Buy lots of em and hold on after they quite selling and hope they come back. Trouble is can I live that long? I found inventory to be a big problem in this goofy market. Bet you know something about that yourself. George

mt got it!!! now you know. Get plenty of hot baits and when the popularity dies, keep your secret.
I do believe fish get conditioned even when smashing schoolers the bite dies, make a change usually color and catch some more.
