I know the fishing in August is getting harder unless you have a deep water hump or brush pile to go to
at what point do you give up on the Shore line stuff and head out to the deep structure
it is a given most of us fish the top water bite early but do you gradually work your way out or do you have a certain time say 10 am you motor out and start looking deep for the bite
Here is my routine of Fork I fish the top water bite then hit the grass line edges with a T rig worm then a Crig out further on the next drop after that I head out to the road beds and humps to graph them for fish and bait fish
what do you do to catch fish

Great question Bill. You know there is know set pattern or routine w/ fish. I'll start on top when i start fishing even if it's 3pm unless I already have pattern established.
Bass have two options 1)mover deeper or 2)move closer and can have lock-jaw at either. I saw a good illustration where if you put several bass in a solid white tank they will spread out relating to nothing, but if you put a single strip of black tape on the side of the tank the fish will congregate together relating to the tape. So basically all you have to do while fishing is find the black tape in the lake and sticking some to a tree or pier doesn't work. I've tried!!
My typical scenario is top water till bite ends, then i fish horizontally working my way deeper while pitching to specific spots of cover w/ some vertical presentation.
I throw a lot of walking baits this time of year and catch numerous 4+lb fish in 2ft of water in the heat of the day, but they are usually very close to the cover. While on the other hand i catch great numbers of fish in 25ft of water on top, but they are smaller.
The heat of the day bite has not been good anywhere on any lake that I've herd or had. I'm usually loaded up and back by 9 or 10 or moving to one of the rivers here.
