I have several friends with the same vehicle. They never use tow/haul unless they are driving some pretty steep hills. As long as it doesn't keep kicking down a gear all the time, you should be fine in normal mode.

I agree with Scott , Dave , My P/U has the 4L80 trans. in it , so I dont take mine out of O/D . A freind of mine works for a trans place here in town and said it was near bullet prof .

I have the option on my 99 silverado and I definitely use it. The Tow/Haul allows you motor to rev higher during each shift interval, taking the strain off your trans. and putting it towards the motor during acceleration. This gives you more power towing power at slower speeds.
It doesn't affect the truck going into overdrive, so your not losing your gas mileage.
My advice is to use it.

I agree with Joel. All it does is change the shift points on the transmission. Gearing stays the same and when on level ground will go into OD. You'll see that with it on it will shift a little quicker going up a hill. One thing is I've noticed if it's a long hill, I'll kill the cruise. Other wise it will shift down and rev your motor to ~5K. Might be OK with a OHC engine, but having floated a lifter or two in my advanced years, it sure puckers the AH up when my Yukon kicks it down into 2nd!

Use it. It raises shift points & give firmer shifts, reducing heat in the tranny. Did you get a tranny gauge in the HO?

I use the Tow/Haul Button in my Suburban and the tranny was been replaced @ 80,000 miles. CBS Puts his in 3 when Towing. Maybe we should break out the manual?

Pulling in three is not necessary until you start rollin through the hills....If you are crusing down I-10 on a flat road, I just don't see the need.
What's almost more important is how often are you flushing your transmission fluid???....if you don't change (flush) it routinely like you do your motor oil, you're asking for trouble.

I didn't service my tranny as much as I should have.

I did read the book, today. It suggests that I use that button when the load is 75% of the GCWR, towing in stop and go traffic, and in hilly situations. This is the overview version!! Hope it helps
