i recently test a new lure, the topwater model 600 by awesome bait co.
it is a 3.5in jelutong wood crank w/ a feather treble on back that stays on top of the
surface when reeled creating a huge bass attracting wake. it weighs
.9oz so it's quite easy to throw, but you don't wana throw it real long
or you'll have to raies you arms up to get the lure to work profeciently
on top or reel supper slow to keep it on top. the model 600 is super
easy to work, just cast and reel. there's no work involved like "walkin
tha dog", and you get a simular action. all you do is throw it out, start
reeling slowly w/ rod tip up as the lure begins to work back and forth
you can increase the speed to make a "harder" wake. as the lure gets
closer you simply lower your rod tip to maintain lure action, simple
as that. you can make this lure dive by dropping the rod tip & increasing reel speed on retrieval causing the lure to dive just under the surface, but you will lose that wake appeal. the model 600 is armed w/ #4 on the belly & a #2 feather
gamakastu treble hooks whick are deadly and very sharp. they will
need to be handled w/ care when unhooking a fish. i had one fish who
swam up too close, the belly hook snagged him on the nose!!
the paint on this lure was emaculant! i fished the silver foil w/ purple
back and was very impressed with the artwork on this lure. it had
great color w/ consisent and straight lines. it is a very eye catching
lure while still in the package. the model 600 is offered in 8 colors for
any condition.
be warned! this is not a small fish lure. i fished the lure for one and a half hours
starting right at daybreak and caught 6 fish w/ top 5 having a combined
weight around 12lbs. i was very highly impressed w/ this lure from fit to
finish,it was beautiful; from fishability, too simple & easy; from fish attraction,
they liked it. so, on "tha field test-ta"s scale i give it a three thumbs up.
i plan on purchasing more in different colors very soon.
