If you were in a bind (like I was) and had to buy oil that wasnt what the Manufacture recommended which would you buy?
The reason I ask was I have been busy and didnt buy my prescribed yamalube. I was talking to the guy who services my boat and he gave me a "talkin too" because the oil I choose was the pennzoil brand. I have ran about 4 gallons through my engine. It now sounds different. The service guy told me that pennzoil was the bottom of the barrel and that if I needed I should get quicksilver instead.
Any thoughts?

For Yamaha, use Yamalube! It's all about viscosity on this engine. Too little viscosity lets the oil flow too fast, too much viscosity lets the oil flow too slowly. This affects the volume dispensed by the oil system, if it is oil injected. If it is not oil injected, a little more free play is tolerable. Oil test on Yamaha engines are for a prescribed amount dispensed in a given period of time. I hope this helps. I never used off brand lubricants in outboards. ONLY WHAT THE MANUFACTURER USES TO TEST THE PRODUCT!

So here is how the story really went guys......
Me and Matt's wife walk into the Montgomery Wal-Mart. Matt says get me a gallon of oil honey while you are buying your stuff. Describes what kind to her. She comes out and gets in the truck and as we're walking out I'm thinking it ain't the right stuff......."Matty poo is this the right oil?" "Oh sure sugar britches you are the best wife of all and thanks for picking it up for me".
Just suck it up and take it back dude. Wal-Mart has an easy return policy.

Sounds right too me.
